Two Trabzonspor fans detained for attacking referee

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish authorities have detained two Trabzonspor fans—both of them minors—for attacking an assistant referee during a home game against rival Fenerbahce, causing the game to be abandoned.

Fenerbahce was leading 4-0 on Sunday when the fans ran on the field and one of them attacked assistant referee Volkan Bayarslan. The game was abandoned in the 89th minute. The assailant pushed Bayarslan to the ground and punched him before security officials pulled him away.

The state-run Anadolu Agency said Monday a 17-year-old high school student, identified by his initials O.M., and a second minor, who has not been identified, were detained and would be questioned by police dealing with juveniles.
