The FA announced a six-game suspension for Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele following an incident involving Chelsea’s Diego Costa during Monday’s game.

Dembele “committed an act of violent conduct” by poking Costa in the eye that was not caught during the game, but seen on further review. The incident took place around halftime. The standard punishment is three matches, and an independent commission upheld the FA’s claim to tack on an additional three for his offense.

Tottenham and Chelsea drew 2–2 in the match, and Dembele was one of a Premier League-record nine Spurs booked during play. He will be unavailable to play until the fifth game of next season.

Tottenham finishes its season against Southampton on Sunday, and Newcastle the following week. The Spurs are playing for second place after the draw with Chelsea clinched the title for Leicester, who are seven points clear.
