Denis Suarez is headed back to Barcelona after the club exercised its buy-back clause on the 22-year-old Spanish midfielder on Monday.

Suarez, a Celta Vigo and Manchester City youth product, played for Barcelona B in 2013-14 and was loaned from Barcelona to Sevilla in 2014-15 before being transferred to Villarreal for 2015-16, signing a four-year deal. That deal included the repurchase clause, which Barcelona triggered for €3.25 million.

He has signed with Barcelona for the next four seasons, with an option for a fifth that is dependent on his number of appearances in the fourth season, the club announced. His new release clause has been set at €50 million.

Suarez had five goals and 11 assists in all competitions with Villarreal last season.
