Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko is headed to Tottenham after a late deadline day deal.
Tottenham and Newcastle have reached a deal for French international midfielder Moussa Sissoko, with Spurs bolstering their attack with another desired midfield addition prior to the summer transfer deadline.
Sissoko, 27, voiced his decision to transfer after Newcastle was relegated from the Premier League. Everton was also interested and appeared to be in the lead for Sissoko's services, only to have its bid of £30 million ($39 million) matched by Tottenham. Sissoko, who had been linked to the likes of Real Madrid this summer, heads to White Hart Lane along with countryman Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, who joined Tottenham from Marseille on deadline day as well. Sissoko tweeted the following just as the final seconds of the transfer deadline counted down, acknowledging he'd signed a five-year deal:
Sissoko played well this summer as he helped France reach the Euro 2016 championship final.
He has made 133 appearances since joining Newcastle in 2013 and has scored 12 times.
