Ricky Taylor takes IMSA pole at Circuit of The Americas
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Ricky Taylor took the pole position Friday for the 2-hour, 40-minute IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race Saturday at Circuit of The Americas .
Driving the No. 10 Corvette Daytona Prototype for his father's Wayne Taylor Racing team, Ricky Taylor had a fast lap of 1 minute, 58.712 seconds (103.1 mph) for his first IMSA pole of the season and third of his career. He will share the car with brother Jordan Taylor on Saturday on the 3.4-mile road course .
''It was very hot and slippery,'' Ricky Taylor said. ''The Continental tire is very good, though. This is as close as we're going to get to the race tomorrow in terms of conditions, so hopefully this is a good read on how we'll all stack up. It's going to be a tough race tomorrow with tire wear and getting through the race cleanly.''
Joining Taylor on the front row for the race will be Tristan Nunez in the No. 55 Mazda Prototype, who turned in a best time of 1:58.715 (103.1 mph). A second Mazda Prototype, the No. 70 driven by Joel Miller, qualified third at 1:59.120 (102.7 mph).
In GT Le Mans class qualifying, Ryan Briscoe earned his first IMSA WeatherTech Championship pole in the No. 67 Ford GT for Chip Ganassi Racing. Robert Alon took the Prototype Challenge pole in the No. 20 ORECA, and Alex Riberas qualified the No. 23 Porsche from Alex Job Racing on the GT Daytona class pole.
