Report: Red Sox Expected To Pursue Free Agent Roy Oswalt

By trading Marco Scutaro to the Colorado Rockies, the Boston Red Sox have freed up $6 million -- and now we've got a pretty good idea what the Sox plan to do with all that loose cash. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says they're making a push for Roy Oswalt.

The Phillies declined their option to keep Oswalt after an injury-plagued, inconsistent 2011 season. Oswalt posted a 3.69 ERA in 139 innings but missed a significant chunk of the season with back injuries. He turned 34 in August.

The Red Sox have an open spot in their rotation as John Lackey spends the entire 2012 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Oswalt would fit right in.
