Giants' Pat Burrell Retires From Playing, Begins New Position As Scout

Pat Burrell is staying with the San Francisco Giants, but the former outfielder is moving to a new position. He's becoming a scout in the Giants' organization, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

After 12 major league seasons, Burrell is retiring from playing at age 35 due to a chronic foot condition. He's been working informally with scouts this spring, and he formally agreed to the new position with Giants GM Brian Sabean today.

“They felt that since I’m so close to playing, I should step away from it for a while,” Burrell said. “Brian’s been around for a long time. He knows what’s best.”
