Carl Pavano Targeted In An Extortion Plot

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Carl Pavano was the target of an extortion plot, according to Hardballtalk.

Pavano, who has pitched in the majors for 13 years, was targeted by a former Southington High School classmate who attempted to reveal personal information about him. The former classmate was reportedly asking for money and a luxury SUV.

Pavano was drafted by the Boston Red Sox directly out of high school.

The 36-year-old is in the final year of a two-year, $16.5 million contract with the Twins. Last season he posted a 9-13 record with a 4.30 ERA, while leading the major leagues in hits allowed with 262. The year prior he went 17-11 for the Twins with a 3.75 ERA, while leading the major leagues in complete games and shutouts.
