Reports: Cubs trade Geovany Soto, Reed Johnson, Paul Maholm

The Chicago Cubs pulled off a pair of trades Monday night, according to multiple reports. The Cubs dealt catcher Geovany Soto to the Texas Rangers for minor-league pitcher Jacob Brigham. Then they swung outfielder Reed Johnson and pitcher Paul Maholm to the Braves.

The 29-year-old Soto is hitting just .195 with six homers and 14 RBI this season. The 24-year-old Brigham is 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 124 innings in Double-A.

The 30-year-old Maholm is 9-6 with a 3.74 ERA this season. He has been on fire in July, allowing five earned runs combined in his last six starts. He is 5-0 with a 1.00 ERA in his last seven starts.
