It was revealed late Wednesday evening that Chicago White Sox captain and first baseman Paul Konerko suffered a concussion and could be placed on the team's seven-day disabled list for further evaluation and rehab, as reported by Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com.

He had been accidentally hit in the right temple by Jarrod Dyson of the Kansas City Royals in the seventh inning of the team's loss on Tuesday. White Sox manager Robin Ventura said he will be out of Wednesday's lineup with "general soreness" but would play if needed.

After the game, it was a different story:

“There have been some serious things with concussions,” Ventura said. “I don’t know if it’s (that bad), but he does have a mild one so it was more of a precaution to keep him out. No way could he have played tonight.”
