Yankees infielder Kevin Youkilis likely to be placed on DL for back injury

Kevin Youkilis will likely head to the 15-day disabled list due to back problems, reports CBS Sports' Jon Heyman. Youkilis has been struggling with a stiff lower back and had an MRI on Monday. The results showed no structural damage, but he will receive an epidural injection, a common method of treating inflammation.

The 34-year-old missed six games before returning to the lineup on Saturday; he hasn't played since.

Youkilis signed a one-year contract with the Yankees as a replacement for the injured Alex Rodriguez. He is batting .266/.347/.422 in 17 games with the team so far. The majority of his time has been spent at third base, although he has played first in five games.
