The Los Angeles Dodgers placed pitcher Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with left groin strain, the team announced.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said after Beckett's latest start, a 6-2 loss to the Washington Nationals on Monday in which he lasted just three innings and gave up four runs, that the groin had been bothering him.

Beckett, 33, is 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP and 41 strikeout this season. Beckett has not been going deep into games failing to throw a pitch in the seventh inning since an April 14 start. Since then, Beckett is averaging just 4 2/3 innings per start with a 6.75 ERA.
