The Detroit Lions are in negotiations with the Big Ten Conference to have a team play in a proposed new bowl game in Detroit, reports ESPN.com.

Currently, the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl played in Detroit pits teams from the Mid-American Conference and the Big 10.

The Big Ten's opponent would no longer be from the MAC and a team from the ACC is the most likely opponent for the Big Ten.

The game will be played at Ford Field, which is the home of the Lions. The new bowl would eliminate the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl after this upcoming season.

More from ESPN.com:

This year is the final in a four-year deal pairing the eighth selection from the Big Ten against a MAC team. Only three times in the past 11 years has a Big Ten team played in the bowl. In the coming weeks the Big Ten and the other nine FBS conferences are expected to announce their new bowl affiliations for the next six seasons beginning after the 2014 regular season.

It's unknown which selection from the Big Ten and ACC the new bowl would get.
