If news that North Carolina junior P.J. Hairston was arrested for possession of marijuana had Tar Heels fans pondering how many games their leading scorer might be suspended to begin the 2013 season, the latest update might put Hairston's future at the school in doubt.

ABC11 reports Durham police found a gun outside of Hairston's vehicle. The report says police are running forensics on the gun that was believed to have been thrown from the vehicle at a license checkpoint Wednesday night. Hairston and two passengers were charged with marijuana possession.

Derek Rowles of ABC 11 tweeted more items the police reportedly seized from Hairston's SUV including plastic baggies, a 9mm handgun, ammunition, car rental agreement for 2013 Yukon

The police report obtained by CBSSports.com Friday morning. It states the gun in question was a 9mm with one magazine holding nine rounds of ammunition.

"We are still gathering information and may comment further later," UNC senior associate athletic director for communications Steve Kirschner told CBSSports.com on Thursday. The school has not commented further, as of Friday morning.
