UPDATE: Ryan Braun has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right thumb injury.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun could land on the disabled list with a lingering thumb injury, according to MLB.com reporter Adam McCalvy. Braun experienced some sharp pain in his right hand during batting practice on Friday and the next course of action could result in his first trip to the disabled list in his career.

According to McCalvy, this was the first time Braun took swings in five days and the batting practice session on Friday would determine whether Braun would be heading for a stint on the disabled list. Braun described the injury as inflammation in a nerve between his right thumb and index finger.

Braun is batting .304 with nine home runs and 36 RBI in 2013 this season.
