Ball State announced senior quarterback Keith Wenning underwent microscopic surgery on his left knee Saturday, but is expected to be ready to go in time for the team's season opener against Illinois State.

Wenning has started 34 games for the Cardinals. Last season he ranked 31st nationally in yards per game (257.9) and 27th in completion percentage (65.4).

Wenning's career totals for passing yards and touchdowns rank second in school history, behind Nate Davis.

Ball State went 6-2 against MAC opponents last season, losing only to Northern Illinois and Kent State, who played in the conference championship.
