Report: Florida offers one-handed shooting guard preferred walk-on status

Florida head coach Billy Donovan has offered preferred walk-on status to a one-handed high school guard, according to a Yahoo! Sports report.

Zach Hodskins, who will begin his senior season at Milton High School in Alpharetta, Ga., is a phenom (see video below) despite a left arm that ends at the elbow. He has become incredibly adept at shooting and passing using only his right hand.

Hodskins had not received a scholarship offer from a Division I school, but Yahoo! Sports reports Alabama-Birmingham and Birmingham Southern were both considering offers.

According to David Boyd, Hodskins’s former basketball coach, Gators assistant coach John Pelphrey presented the preferred walk-on offer, which would guarantee Hodskins a spot on the team for the 2014-15 season, though not a full scholarship.
