Roma forward Erik Lamela will sign with Tottenham Hotspur for a fee that could top $45 million, according to Roma's website Wednesday.

The move comes as Tottenham readies to part ways with its own star forward, Gareth Bale, who is close to moving to Real Madrid for what would be a world record transfer fee of $132 million.

The 21-year-old Lamela first came to Roma from River Plate in 2011 for $22.5 million. The Argentine-native will now move for an initial fee of $38 million up-front and another $7.5 million coming in add-ons depending on his success with the club, according to the report, with translation from Joe Prince-Wright of NBC Sports.

Lamela will join a Tottenham core that includes Etienne Capoue, Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Nacer Chadli. Together, those players account for approximately $130 million, roughly the same amount that will be paid for Bale by Real.
