OSU coach Urban Meyer: "Fairly optimistic" QB Braxton Miller plays Saturday

Just a day after saying quarterback Braxton Miller was day-to-day with a knee sprain, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said that he is "fairly optimistic" that Miller will play Saturday against California in Berkeley.

Miller lasted just seven plays in last week's 42-7 victory over San Diego State before suffering a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.  He did not return to the game.

If Miller can't go, the Buckeyes will start senior backup Kenny Guiton, who completed 19/28 passes for 152 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in relief of Miller.  He also ran nine times for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Meyer said he has seen "substantial" improvement in Miller's movement this week.

"His arm is fine," Meyer said, via FoxSports.com. "It's just, can he move and all that? I'll know more of that after today's practice."
