The Carolina Panthers and New York Giants are working on a potential trade that would send Pro Bowl linebacker Jon Beason to New York, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported Thursday.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that the trade would send Beason to New York in exchange for a late-round draft pick. The deal is close, but requires Beason to pass a physical before it is finalized, according to Rapoport.
The 0-4 Giants have the 22nd-ranked defense in the NFL. They rank 28th in rush yards allowed per game and 19th in pass yards allowed. And they rank dead last in points allowed per game.
Beason would provide the Giants with a veteran presence who has earned three Pro Bowl nods. He started all 64 games and was named to three Pro Bowl teams from 2007 to 2010,. But he has played only seven games since tearing his Achilles tendon in the 2011 season opener.
