Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will not face criminal charges in connection with sexual assault claims made against him, state attorney Willie Meggs announced Thursday. ESPN first reported that Winston would not face charges.

"We have carefully examined the evidence in this case and have concluded no charges will be filed in this case," Meggs said. The case is now closed, Meggs said.

Winston's attorney Tim Jansen said later Thursday that Winston was "happy" that the investigation is complete.

Winston has denied the allegations since they emerged on Nov. 13. His attorney later said the sex was consensual.

The alleged victim had said that Winston raped her last December. Her family released a statement two weeks ago questioning the investigation.
