Southern Mississippi's coach Donnie Tyndall has reached an agreement in principal with Tennessee and will be the next head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers, according to CBS Sports' Gary Parrish.

The Volunteers were looking at Louisiana Tech men’s basketball coach Mike White, but earlier on Monday, White announced that he was going to stay put, so the Vols turned their attention to Tyndall.

Tyndall, 43, was hired in 2006 by his alma mater Morehead State after a 4-23 season. Tyndall turned Morehead State around and in 2011 the team upset the fourth-seeded Louisville Cardinals on a buzzer-beater. Tyndall will now take over a Vols team that went 24-13 last season and reached the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament.
