Columbus Crew forward Guillermo Barros Schelotto has stated his desire to return to Gimnasia La Plata before the end of his playing days and hopes he could have a similar impact on the team as Juan Sebastián Verón did on his return to Estudiantes.

Schelotto, 34, was in discussions with Gimnasia over a potential transfer in January, but in the end he elected to stay for another season in Major League Soccer with Columbus.

At the time he suggested that he would be open to a return to the club where he first broke into professional football at some point in the future and he reiterated those thoughts when he spoke to Olé on Thursday.

"[Columbus] understand my intention to return... until now it could not be. We will see what happens in the future," he affirmed.

El Mellizo is enchanted by the idea of returning to Gimnasia, as Verón did to the other La Plata side Estudiantes and hopes to have a similar effect on the team if his desire to return ever bears fruition.

"It is obvious that Verón gives a special injection of confidence to Estudiantes. Can I do the same for Gimnasia? Hopefully that will be a yes.

"The figure of Verón, because of his father and him, is related to winning trophies, and brings out a little extra in everyone. I do not know if my name will have the same effect for Gimnasia. I would like if I could have a positive effect to help him achieve something good," he concluded.
