Greek Super League side Larissa has continued its impressive offseason recruitment drive, officially announcing the capture of former Newcastle United winger Laurent Robert after the Frenchman signed a two-year contract with the club.

The arrival of Robert follows the summer signings of Belgian international and former Anderlecht striker Mbo Mpenza and former Newcastle United star and Peru international Nolberto Solano.

An official statement on the club's Web site read: "AEL 1964 are pleased to announce the completion of yet another outstanding signing, with the acquisition of Lauren Robert. The French international midfielder agreed to sign a two-year contract, bringing his exceptional skills as a footballer to Larissa and his enormous experience from his time spent in the French league, the English Premier League, La Liga and the French national team."

The club also confirmed in a separate statement that the 33-year-old midfielder had completed his first training session with the club, linking up with new manager Marinos Ouzounidis and former Toon teammate Solano.

Robert spent last season with MLS outfit Toronto FC.
