FC Dallas extends Moor's deal, but not Cooper's

Add FC Dallas defender Drew Moor to the list of young players signed recently by MLS to new contracts -- but not Kenny Cooper.

Dallas is expected to make the official announcement this week, according to a team source. Moor, 24, has played for Dallas since being drafted out of Indiana in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft after helping the Hoosiers win back-to-back NCAA Division I titles.

In MLS, Moor has scored four goals and two assists in 96 regular-season games. As per his previous contract, his base salary for the '08 season was $69,685.

FCD has suspended negotiations with forward Cooper, who attracted interest from SK Rosenborg and Cardiff City during the summer international transfer window. Those negotiations will resume at the end of the season, if not before.

Cooper will likely ask for Designated Player money. Even if it doesn't make him a DP, FC Dallas is getting ready to spend a lot of money on him or someone else. His base salary is $80,000 for this season.

Dallas has amassed significant allocation money via the sale of midfielder Juan Toja to Steaua Bucharest and the trades of Arturo Alvarez (to San Jose) and Abe Thompson (to Kansas City).

Theoretically, Dallas can use up to $500,000 of its portion of the Toja fee -- teams normally receive two-thirds of the fee -- and it received $125,000 in allocation money via the Thompson deal. Another source said San Jose "paid more" than $125,000 for Alvarez but refused to cite a figure.

Last week, new deals were announced for Toronto FC forward Chad Barrett and Chicago midfielder Justin Mapp. Both are 23 and signed four-year deals. Salaries have not yet been released by the MLS Players Union.

Barrett had been acquired from Chicago in the deal that sent Brian McBride to the Fire. He has scored 20 goals and logged 11 assists in 87 games. Mapp has played 138 MLS games, scored 12 goals, and registered 29 assists since making his pro debut at age 17 with D.C. United in '02.
