Independiente dominates Boca in Argentina 2-0

Argentine Apertura Champions Boca Juniors had two men sent off in their unexpected 2-0 defeat to Independiente at the Tomas A. Duco stadium on Sunday.

Independiente completely dominated its opponents and recorded a comfortable victory with two goals from attacking midfielder Daniel Montenegro.

His first was an extraordinary long-range missile in the 55th minute, and his second was a penalty conversion in the 78th minute.

The Red Devils could have won the match by a greater difference towards the end.

With the result, Independiente climbed into 10th place position with seven points, while Boca dropped down to 13th , with six points. It was Boca's third defeat in five matches.

Meanwhile, River Plate jumped into fifth after coming from behind to beat Arsenal de Sarandi 3-1 at a packed Monumental stadium.

Both teams had two players each sent off in a fiery encounter that could have been won by either side.

Luciano Leguizamon fired Arsenal ahead from the penalty spot, but Radamel Falcao Garcia immediately drew River level .

In the second half, substitute Marcelo Gallardo scored two brilliant goals to give River a valuable victory.

Also on Sunday, Rosario Central defeated San Lorenzo 3-1 at the Gigante de Arroyito stadium, with goals by Guillermo Burdisso, Emiliano Zelaya and Jesus Mendez. Cristian Ledesma had initially put the visitors ahead.

On Saturday, Tigre thrashed Racing Club 4-1, Colon de Santa Fe beat Banfield 2-0, Huracan edged Gimnasia de Jujuy 2-1, while Argentinos Juniors and Gimnasia La Plata shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
