Galaxy officially add T&T midfielder Birchall

The Los Angeles Galaxy have announced the signing of Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Chris Birchall, according to a press release sent out by the team.

"Chris is a player that I've tracked for a number of years," Galaxy General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. "He is an experienced midfielder with good qualities on both sides of the ball who I feel he will be able to contribute immediately as we push for a playoff position."

Birchall, 25, has played his entire club career in the U.K., enjoying successful stints at Port Vale, Coventry, St. Mirren and Brighton and Hove.

A native of Stafford, England, Birchall plays his international football for Trinidad and Tobago, where he has won 32 caps. In those appearances, he has added four goals. He was a key member of the squad that won its first-ever qualification to the World Cup in 2006.
