Manchester United is reportedly set to offer veteran goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar a new one-year extension to his current contract.

The 38-year-old is likely to accept the offer, according to The Manchester Evening News.

This casts the future of young Polish stopper Tomasz Kuszczak in some doubt, with England International Ben Foster seemingly above him in the pecking order.

Foster himself has recently expressed frustration with his inability to hold down a regular spot between the sticks at Old Trafford, and Sir Alex Ferguson might yet turn his January attentions to finding another goalkeeper.

Rumors have persistently linked the Red Devils with a move for CSKA Moscow's Russian international Igor Akinfeev, though nothing official has materialized as yet.
