Tottenham's Modric out for two weeks after surgery

LONDON (Reuters) -- Tottenham Hotspur's Croatia midfielder Luka Modric will be out for two weeks after having his appendix removed.

He was "diagnosed with acute appendicitis after contacting our medical staff complaining of abdominal discomfort," the club said on their website (www.tottenhamhotspur.com) on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old has been in good form again this season, helping Spurs reach the last 16 of the Champions League and maintain a challenge to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Fifth-placed Tottenham travel to Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday suffering from an injury-crisis with several players missing including most of their defence.

With Michael Dawson suspended, Younes Kaboul requiring knee surgery and William Gallas doubtful, former Real Madrid player Jonathan Woodgate may make his first start since November 2009. Club captain Ledley King and Tom Huddlestone are on the long-term injury list and Gareth Bale is sidelined with a back problem but Wilson Palacios could return after a knee problem.
