Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey are on the U.S. national team roster for next week's exhibition game at Italy and could play together for the first time since Jurgen Klinsmann was hired as coach last summer.

The attacking pair were among 21 players selected for Wednesday's match in Genoa.

Borussia Dortmund forward Terrence Boyd was the only newcomer on the roster announced Thursday. He had been selected last week for the American under-23 roster for an exhibition against Mexico, also on Feb. 29.

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who made seven starts for Aston Villa while Shay Given was injured in December and January, was selected for the first time since November 2010.

Just four players are from Major League Soccer, which is in its preseason. Six are based in Germany, four in England, two each in Denmark and Scotland, and one apiece in Italy, Mexico and the Netherlands.

Italy will announce its roster Sunday.

Preparing for the start of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, the U.S. hosts Scotland on May 26 at Jacksonville, Fla., and Brazil on May 30 at Landover, Md., then plays Canada at Toronto on June 3. The Americans, seeking their seventh straight World Cup appearance, open qualifying on June 8 against Antigua and Barbuda at Tampa, Fla.
