Kenny Miller's first goal of the 2013 season came at a good time for the Vancouver Whitecaps, as it led the team to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Columbus Crew on Saturday. Miller's goal came in the 57th minute of an entertaining, back-and-forth contest between the two sides.
The Whitecaps opened the scoring just six minutes in thanks to a magnificent goal from new signing Daigo Kobayashi. The Japanese took an innocuous looking square pass from Darren Mattocks in midfield, then fired a perfectly curving strike past Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum and into the back of the net for his first goal in MLS.
Though Vancouver continued to press in search of a goal, the team missed multiple clear chances to get their second. That would come back to haunt them just after halftime, as Crew forward Jairo Arrieta pounced on a trough ball in the box and beat Whitecaps 'keeper Joe Cannon to his near post for the equalizer.
The Whitecaps woudl fight back through Miller's goal, though, as the Scottish striker pounced on a poor ball out of the back and powered home the winning goal in the 57th minute.
