MANGARATIBA, Brazil (AP) Fullback Mattia De Sciglio will remain with Italy's squad even though he has been ruled out of the Azzurri's World Cup opener against England on Saturday due to a strained leg muscle.

Extra center back Andrea Ranocchia and fourth goalkeeper Antonio Mirante, meanwhile, have been sent home.

Ranocchia and Mirante came to Brazil as possible replacements in Italy's 23-man squad in case of injuries.

De Sciglio injured his left leg during training Thursday. Without him, Giorgio Chiellini will probably move to left back and Gabriel Paletta or Leonardo Bonucci will step in to pair with Andrea Barzagli in central defense.

The 21-year-old De Sciglio could return for Italy's next matches in Group D against Costa Rica and Uruguay.

Italy was traveling on Friday to Manaus for the England match.
