SAO PAULO (AP) Even after taking a hard blow to the head, Uruguay midfielder Alvaro Pereira insisted on staying in the game for his team's crucial game against England.
Pereira collided with England's Raheem Sterling in the second half of Uruguay's 2-1 victory on Thursday. As he slid for a ball, Pereira was struck on the head by Sterling's knee.
He lay motionless on the ground for a few minutes as teammates signaled for a stretcher. But after wobbling to the bench he appeared to argue with the team's staff and then re-entered the game shortly after.
There was no immediate word on whether the 28-year-old Sao Paulo FC player was knocked unconscious or sustained a concussion in the incident.
