FIFA denied the appeal of Brazilian captain Thiago Silva's yellow card, soccer's governing body announced Monday.

Silva received his second yellow card of the tournament when he impeded a kick from Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina. He will be suspended for Tuesday's semifinal match against Germany. Brazil lodged the appeal after the 2-1 quarterfinal victory on Friday.

FIFA said in its conclusion that it "cannot consider the matter given the fact that there is no legal basis entitling it to grant such request."

Silva will be allowed to play in either the final or the third place match this weekend.
