Malaga struggled in La Liga last season, finishing 11th. Their leading goalscorer was Roque Santa Cruz, who finished the season with six goals. They were led in assists by Duda, who finished the season with five. 

This offseason, Malaga lost five players to transfer, including Nordin Amrabat, who was tied last season on the team with Duda in assists with five as well. However, they did welcome 10 new players in this season.
