As MLS gears up for the second half of its 2014 campaign, the race for the Supporters' Shield and the 2014 MLS Cup are wide open.

Defending MLS Cup champion Sporting Kansas City leads the league with 39 points, but the club is only two points ahead of resurgent DC United in the Eastern Conference. Toronto FC and New York Red Bulls follow with 29 and 28 points, respectively, though several other teams are within striking distance. Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips -- who scored in the All-Star game against Bayern Munich -- leads MLS entering the second half with 18 goals.

In the Western Conference, Seattle Sounders enter the second half on top with 38 points, trailed closely with 36 by Real Salt Lake, which lost to Sporting KC in MLS Cup penalty kicks last season. LA Galaxy surged just before the All-Star break and sits in third with 33 points, tied with FC Dallas.

LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan announced the day after the All-Star game that 2014 will be his last year as a professional, so fans only have a limited number of chances to see the U.S. great play before his career concludes.
