Mexico calls on Chivas USA's Torres, but not Chicharito, for friendlies

One of MLS' leading scorers will suit up for Mexico's national team, while an El Tri stalwart misses out for next month's friendlies. 

Chivas USA's Erick Torres, whose 14 goals are third in MLS, has been called in by manager Miguel Herrera for September matches against Bolivia and Chile in the USA, while Manchester United forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez will not be part of the group. The Mexican federation released a list of players not based in Liga MX whose clubs have been notified of the call-ups, while the full roster, including the domestic-based players, is expected to be released next Wednesday or Thursday.

In addition to Torres, who was a 2014 MLS All-Star and whose call-up is his first at the senior national team level, goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa (Malaga), Giovani dos Santos (Villarreal), Javier Aquino (Rayo Vallecano), Hector Herrera (Porto) and Andres Guardado (Valencia), will participate in the friendlies. Forward Raul Jimenez, who just joined Atletico Madrid from Club America, was left out, as well as center backs Diego Reyes (Porto) and Hector Moreno (Espanyol).

Mexico will play fellow World Cup round-of-16 participant Chile on Sept. 6 at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco before meeting Bolivia on Sept. 9 at Dick's Sport Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.

The games fall on official FIFA dates, meaning clubs are required to part with their players if called upon. Chicharito's omission could come down to a couple of factors: His form and rumors of a potential move away from Manchester United, where he has not been in favor since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure.
