UEFA has selected 13 cities that will stage the 2020 European Championship, with England hosting the semi-finals and final, the UEFA Executive Committee announced Friday

London’s Wembley Stadium will host the semi-finals and final. England previously hosted the 1996 European Championship, a tournament won by Germany.

"We have a good young side at the moment and some will be around in six years' time," English Football Association chairman Greg Dyke said, according to the Associated Press. "It will be a great ambition for them to take us to Wembley in 2020 ... it's an incentive."

England fell to Italy in the quarterfinals of Euro 2012.

Unlike other European Championships, Euro 2020 competition will be spread around the continent instead of being confined to one or two host nations.

Baku, Brussels, Copenhagen, Munich, Budapest, Rome, Amsterdam, Dublin, Bucharest, Saint Petersburg, Glasgow and Bilbao will host at least three group games plus a round of 16 match. The quarterfinal matches will be played in Baku, Munich, Rome and Saint Petersburg.

France is the host of Euro 2016.
