Real Madrid vs. Barcelona

All eyes will be on the Bernabeu on Saturday for Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, a match that is certainly the weekend's biggest soccer match and perhaps the most anticipated matchup since the World Cup Final in July.

Barcelona currently sits atop La Liga's table with 22 points, four ahead of third-place Real Madrid. Both teams finished top three last year but missed out on a La Liga title, with Atletico Madrid winning the league on the final day of the season.

The intensity of El Clasico is always high, but Saturday's edition of the rivalry seemingly has an even greater edge. Both teams added a number of stars to their already star-laden squads this summer, and the most notable of those signings -- new Barcelona striker Luis Suarez -- will make his team debut against Real Madrid as his four-month ban for biting concludes. Real Madrid also made a splash in the transfer window, signing Colombian wunderkind James Rodriguez and German midfielder Toni Kroos, among other players.

Last year, Barcelona won both La Liga matches against Real Madrid. Barca defeated Los Blancos 2-1 in October and 4-3 in March.

Real Madrid did not come up empty-handed against Barcelona last season, however. The club defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the Copa del Rey final in April, giving Real Madrid a trophy.

In addition to the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid won the Champions League title last season after defeating Atletico Madrid in extra time. Barcelona bowed out to Atletico in the quarterfinal of the tournament.

Barcelona last won the Champions League in 2010-11.

Prior to Atletico Madrid's domestic title last season, either Barcelona or Real Madrid had won La Liga every year since 2003-04, when Valencia claimed the title.
