ZURICH (AP) The United States should find out in May 2017 if it will host the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA says its executive committee has agreed to a timetable for the hosting decision. The hosting vote is by FIFA member federations at their annual congress, which is in 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 209 members should be presented with a shortlist of three candidates chosen by the executive committee.

The CONCACAF region believes it should get priority because it has not staged a World Cup since the U.S. hosted in 1994. The U.S., Canada and Mexico are likely bidders.

FIFA rules are likely to rule out European and Asian countries after Russia will host in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.
