Tottenham Hotspur-Stoke City Preview

Moussa Sissoko and Wilfried Bony could both make debuts for their respective clubs when unbeaten Tottenham Hotspur arrive at Stoke City on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham (1-2-0) have struggled to click in their opening three games, but are yet to be defeated after draws against Merseyside duo Liverpool and Everton - either side of a win over Crystal Palace.

And Spurs will be boosted for their trip to the Potteries by the arrival of deadline day signing Sissoko, who came over from Newcastle in what could prove to be a club-record £30 million move.

"Sissoko is maybe in the squad," Pochettino revealed in his pre-match media conference. "He arrived with us for the first time yesterday (following an international call-up by France) and he was in a good condition, but I will decide (Friday)."

Tottenham will also be boosted by the news that key creative midfielder Christian Eriksen ended a contract impasse with the club and agreed to terms on a new four-year deal - a development that the player's manager feels will lift a weight off his shoulders.

"Perhaps subconsciously, the speculation can affect you when you are in the process of negotiating your future," Pochettino said. "It is not about money. It's about your future.

"We trust Christian, he is happy to stay and there is no doubt he will improve his performance in the future. If the club give him a better contract, it is because he deserves it."

And Spurs had yet more good news in the build up to the game, confirming that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is fit and available for selection following a hamstring injury that has kept him out since the opening weekend.

However left-back Danny Rose picked up a knock while away on international duty with England and will miss Saturday's game.

Tottenham will be confident of winning their second game of the season, as no team in the Premier League have won more times at Stoke (five) since the Potters' promotion to the top-flight in 2008.

However, the north London visitors will have to deal with a team improved following the arrival of striker Bony on loan from Manchester City on the final day of the transfer window.

Mark Hughes' Stoke (0-1-2) have managed just two goals in their opening three games and are at the foot of the table with just a single point on the board.

But the arrival of Bony will give their talented yet toothless attack a much-needed focal point, and fellow summer addition Joe Allen is looking forward to working with the Ivory Coast international.

"Everyone is talking about the impact he could have and will have at Stoke," Allen said of Bony. "The boys who played with him at Swansea talk very highly of him so I'm looking forward to playing alongside him."

The Potters may have Bony - who has scored on each of his two previous Premier League starts against Spurs - but will be without Jack Butland, Stephen Ireland and Ibrahim Afellay through injury. Xherdan Shaqiri, Glen Johnson and Mame Diouf are also struggling to be fit in time for the game.

This is only the third time in their Premier League history that Stoke have been bottom of the table. They will be keen to avoid a repeat of the most recent meetings between the two clubs, which Spurs won 4-0 in one of their classiest performances of last season.
