Watch: Fans across country celebrate USA's World Cup win
The USA captured its first World Cup title since 1999 with a 5–2 win over Japan in Sunday's final.
Carli Lloyd was the hero of the game after scoring a historic hat trick in the first 16 minutes, and later won the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. The U.S. also received goals in the final from Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath.
The game smashed American TV ratings records, becoming the most-watched soccer match, men's or women's, in U.S. history. After the win, athletes from all the major American pro leagues congratulated the team on Twitter.
