Brooks, Green on US under-23 roster instead of national team

CHICAGO (AP) After scoring for the U.S. at last year's World Cup, defender John Brooks and midfielder Julian Green were picked for the American under-23 team this month rather than the senior squad.

They were among 19 players announced Monday by coach Andi Herzog for exhibitions against Brazil on Wednesday in Recife and Sunday in Belem. After finishing third in the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament, the Americans play Colombia in a two-leg series in March for a berth in next year's Olympics.

Defender Matt Miazga and forward Jordan Morris, who are eligible for the under-23 team, are with the senior national team for World Cup qualifiers against St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday at St. Louis and at Trinidad and Tobago on Nov. 17.

The under-23 roster:

Goalkeepers: Cody Cropper (MK Dons, England), Charlie Horton (Leeds, England), Jon Kempin (Kansas City)

Defenders: John Brooks (Hertha Berlin, Germany), Cameron Carter-Vickers (Tottenham, England), Eric Miller (Montreal), Shane O'Neill (Royal Mouscron, Belgium), Boyd Okwuonu (Salt Lake), Dave Romney (Los Angeles), Oscar Sorto (Los Angeles)
