The New York Red Bulls will pick up midfielder Dax McCarty’s club option for the 2016 season, the team announced on Monday.
McCarty earned MLS Best XI honors in 2015, and captained the Red Bulls to their second Supporters’ Shield in three years, with two goals and eight assists in 36 games.
“It’s great news,” McCarty said, according to Empire of Soccer. “Obviously, I have one year left and we will see what happens in the future. Hopefully coming back next year, we can make another run at MLS Cup.”
New York was ousted by Columbus in the Eastern Conference Championship on Sunday.
