Fletcher heads West Brom to victory against Newcastle

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) Darren Fletcher headed in a late winner as West Bromwich Albion moved further away from the drop zone by beating fellow struggler Newcastle 1-0 in the Premier League on Monday.

The match looked to be heading for a draw when Fletcher nodded home his first goal of the season in the 78th minute.

Newcastle remains in 18th place on 17 points, while West Brom moves on to the relative safety of 23 points.
