NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — First-half goals from Ayoze Perez and Georginio Wijnaldum secured a first win for Newcastle in seven games in all competitions on Saturday, beating West Ham 2-1 in the English Premier League.

Perez fired the Magpies into an early lead at St James' Park, curling the ball sweetly beyond Adrian after Wijnaldum laid the ball off from Jonjo Shelvey's pass.

It was 2-0 with just 15 minutes played after Shelvey speared a long pass into the run of full-back Daryl Janmaat, who slid a cross to Wijnaldum, who steered the ball into the roof of the net.

High-flying West Ham got one back after the break when defender Chancel Mbemba left his back pass to Rob Elliot short, and halftime substitute Nikica Jelavic rounded the `keeper.

Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey could find himself in trouble over an off-the-ball body-check on Hammers striker Enner Valencia which the referee did not spot.
