Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will retire after the 2018 World Cup, he announced Monday.

“Am I going to sign a new contract?” Buffon said. “If we manage to reach the World Cup in 2018 then I’ll press on. But after that, I’ll bring down the shutters.”

Buffon, who turns 38 this week, helped Italy to a World Cup title in 2006, while also winning the six Serie A titles with Juventus, which is currently on an 11-match winning streak.

Buffon has made a record 154 appearances for his country and is this year’s winner of the Gianni Brera award for Sportsman of the Year.
