CLUJ, Romania (AP) — Spain and Romania played to a lackluster 0-0 draw in a warmup for the European Championship on Sunday.
It was a second consecutive draw for two-time defending champion Spain, after its game against Italy on Thursday in Udine finished 1-1. Romania had beaten Lithuania 1-0 on Wednesday.
Neither team was able to impress, and both failed to capitalize on the few scoring opportunities they created at the Cluj Arena.
Spain played with a depleted squad because of injuries, with coach Vicente Del Bosque missing players such as Andres Iniesta, Diego Costa and Sergio Ramos.
"I'm not fully happy with the games we played, we lacked depth in general," Del Bosque said. "Romania played a very good match. It didn't let us play our game. It's a good national team."
Spain controlled possession but couldn't break through Romania's defense, while the home side threatened on counterattacks and forced Iker Casillas to make a couple of good saves.
Casillas played his 166th game for the national team, beating the European record set by former midfielder Vitalijs Astafjevs of Latvia.
"We tried to keep possession but they created problems on counterattacks, they have some very fast players up front," Spain midfielder Jorge "Koke" Resurreccion said. "We are annoyed because we were not able to win, but we will improve for the Euros, we have a good group."
Del Bosque tested several players, including strikers Aritz Aduriz and Manuel "Nolito" Agudo.
Romania will open the European Championship against host France on June 10 atStade de France in Paris, while Spain begins its title defense against the Czech Republic three days later in Toulouse.
