And if he is to join up with the Italian-born Dutchman, it could Manchester United that are encouraged in their pursuit.

The super agent represents Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has left the club following the expiry of his contract.

Raiola is said to have a good relationship with United and speculation is bound to increase that another of his players is headed for the Premier League club.

The Portuguese coach has already strengthened his squad with the arrivals of defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica and Everton forward Romelu Lukaku, and has now turned his sights towards adding a midfielder.

Verratti has established himself as one of Europe's most complete midfielders, scoring three goals and providing five assists in 28 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
