2016-17 was a superb season for the Bournemouth as the South Coasters finished 9th in the Premier League having only been promoted to the top tier in 2015.

It’s fair to say Eddie Howe’s men deserved a break and the club found a novel way of bonding the squad, and initiating a few new faces; by sending them all out on kayaking during their pre-season tour in Marbella.

Summer signings Nathan Ake, Jermain Defoe as well as last year’s top scorer Joshua King were ‘thrown in at the deep end’ and had to race to a checkpoint in the water and paddle back to pass the baton on to the rest of their teams.

A number of Cherries stars were visibly struggling to stay aboard as a team helmed by Dan Gosling and Artur Boruc appeared to come out on top during the Alboran Sea kayak race.

Speaking as part of his official tour diary on AFCBTV Charlie Daniels said;

'It was very enjoyable, unfortunately my team come around sixth out eight, which obviously wasn't the best.

'I think there are forfeits for whoever lost so I'm not looking forward to seeing what we got.

'Looking forward to getting back to training.'

Adam Federici proved he’s unlikely ever to be a sailor during his retirement, and laughed off his nautical shortcomings;

'We came last. I'm not naming names but we had a smaller crew. Not ideal for the power that we needed. There were certain groups that were a bit uneven, that's all I'm saying.'
